Trials in Fish

VANNAGEN® enhances the performance of Asian Sea Bass

The addition of 500 g of VANNAGEN® / tonne of trash fish fed to Asian Sea Bass for 96 days increased the performance of the fish remarkably. Besides an increase in the specific growth rate and daily weight gain, the feed conversion ratio was also improved.

VANNAGEN® improves the immunity of fish

The animals were exposed to a challenge with a virulent strain of Aeromonas which resulted in 98% mortality in the non-vaccinated control group. In the vaccinated control group 24% of the fish died, whereas in the VANNAGEN® group the mortality was reduced to 10%.

Antibody titres after intramuscular vaccination of Tilapia against Aeromonas hydrophila after inclusion of 500 g of VANNAGEN® / tonne of feed.

VANNAGEN® positively affects expression levels of genes involved in immune response in turbot

It was determined that IgM and RAG-1 gene expression were both significantly increased in the gill and spleen of fish fed the VANNAGEN®-fortified diet but decreased in the kidneys. Lysozyme expression was significantly decreased in the spleen and kidney of fish fed the VANNAGEN® diet without apparent effect to the gill.

Development of intestinal villi structures upon VANNAGEN®

Compared to the control animals, the length of the intestinal villi in the test group was increased after three weeks of feeding a VANNAGEN® fortified diet. This improves the protection from bacterial or viral infections as well as parasitic attacks. Moreover, the uptake of nutrients is facilitated due to the increased surface area of the intestinal structures.
